Rear of the 1st Tee – the Board concluded that the current look of sand and marram grass needed changing. During the next two weeks the area will be turfed and pieces of sandstone added, one of which will be engraved with the Club’s name. The area will be edged with sleepers to prevent vehicular traffic encroaching, as had already happened. An outside contractor has been engaged to complete the work.

Clubhouse Update and furnishing - The 'old office' will have a dedicated Ryder Cup theme. Some of the current memorabilia in the Spike Bar will be moved into the room and replaced with new features from our archives. New furniture is on order for the room, as are new tables for the main lounge to replace those that had been chipped.

The hallway will soon feature the Ladies honours boards and the Club's prestigious individuals honours board will be placed by the sliding doors. It is the intention that this area will become the Main Entrance to the Club. We will return to members with those plans at a later date.

New carpets have been ordered for the changing rooms. The Ladies locker room will also have some minor improvements and updates to the current facilities.

Practice Ground – a small group has been set up to investigate options to overcome the current problems. These options include perimeter netting and cameras plus an upgrade on the current facilities. New nets and matting have been ordered for the 'driving net'.

Finally, can I remind all members that we do have many rules and bye-laws that are in place so the Club's facilities can be enjoyed by all. The Board are adamant that they want to uphold standards throughout the Club. No one wants to spoil anyone’s enjoyment of your membership of S&A but as an example the selfish acts of a very few have impacted on the majority as regards the use of the practice ground. The increasing use of telephones on the course; misuse of buggies; practising on the course and the unedifying response by some to any challenge over rules or etiquette (which includes speed of play), will not be tolerated moving ahead. We ask everyone to not only respect these rules and etiquette but that we also respect each other (members and visitors). The competition season has already resulted in a dispute between members over dates that we would not like to see repeated.

The rules and regulations are there for a reason, so we can all hopefully enjoy our golf and facilities. Please respect them and your fellow golfers.
