The Board met on Monday evening and discussed how we should deal with matters following Phil Worthington’s resignation as General Manager. We agreed to start the process to find a new General Manager immediately, though as you can image, this may take some time. In the interim period the Senior Staff will continue to run the Club assisted by myself and the Vice Chairman Paul Gwynne, together with the following Directors who will offer support as follows; Paul Ryan - Finance; Golf - Bryan Read; House - Pauline Rooney; Greens - Alan Rutherford. The full-time working Directors will also add support when they are available. Paul Gwynne will be overseeing the completion of the aesthetics of the back of the 1st tee over the next two to three weeks.

This is not the forum to answer much of the gossip and speculation that has been about, however, the Board did want to make it clear that the departure of the senior members of staff was unrelated. Both Phil and Tony concurred with the Board’s view that the Club is in a good place. Many foundations are in place for us to look forward to the new season with positivity.

Given the recent weather conditions I am pleased to announce that on Saturday 30th March the full golf course, including the 18th hole, will open with no mats or preferred lies. Both the 1st and 18th holes will close for two more days on the 1st and 2nd of April after which there are no planned closures. Local rules are in place regarding the new dune work and if your ball comes to rest in a seam/join then you would get a free drop otherwise it is in play unless marked GUR.

Please still observe any roped off areas. Last week a buggy, driven by a member, passed through a restricted area whilst another member lifted the rope for him to pass through. Sadly, such selfish misuse has not been restricted to that individual this winter. Divots clearly show some individuals have been ignoring the use of mats. Perhaps members would support stronger action against those who choose to ignore measures put in place for the greater benefit of the whole membership?

Can I on behalf of all the membership congratulate our Acting Course Manager Jamie Whittle, who has been awarded the honour of an R&A Scholarship. In practice this sees the R&A investing money and resources into Jamie to further his future in green keeping. For example, pay for his higher national certificate in golf course management and also give him the chance to go and experience different competitions around the world along with trips to Scotland to visit the R&A clubhouse and many other golf courses.

Diary Date: The Directors are holding a further Meet the Directors Evening on Wednesday 10th April at 7.30 in the Clubhouse. This will be informal with no presentation, just an opportunity to talk to each other.
