PROJECTS UPDATE

CLUBHOUSE ENTRANCE & OLD OFFICE REFURBISHMENT

Work is progressing well with this project, although there have been a couple of setbacks.

The false ceilings have been removed with permanent plaster ceilings installed. All electrics have been reconfigured to be above the ceiling line and the plumbing for a new AC unit has been installed. The old water pipe has now been removed from the old Office, along with the radiators and their pipework, which will create nice smooth wall surfaces for boards and pictures to be hung. A new doorway has been cut through to access the room from the Spike Bar, with the old doorway and small side windows being blocked up. The new trophy cabinet has been partially installed and prep work for the redecoration has now begun.

The one set back is that the floor in the old Office has needed lifting and levelling, which will add some expense to the project, as well as some time. The noise you will hear over the coming days is the team hammering out half of the old concrete slab that is no longer fit for purpose. The other side of the slab is in good order as it was replaced during a previous set of works, but unfortunately the rest of the slab now needs to be made good as part of this project. It is likely that this will add around 10 days to the anticipated completion date, but we are still hopeful that all will be done well before the Easter weekend.

WINTER WORK PROGRAMME & GROW IN OF TURF

Work is progressing on the course as per our schedule, and some areas are now starting to be boxed off as complete. The green keeping team have been tasked with bringing some of the bunkers back into play over the coming weeks and to hopefully moving the 2nd tee back on to a proper tee box. I will of course notify you all of any direct changes to the course layout, but do keep an eye out as some existing areas of GUR may be brought back into play.

The newly laid turf is rooting well as some of these areas have been down for 2 months now. Other areas have been more recently laid but are also appreciating the warmer temperatures. The spreading of sand and use of fertiliser will now commence on the new turf areas to help bring them along, but nothing will aid their growth more than continued good weather. We will of course expect a cold spell again, but if it isn’t too harsh we should be able to get some of the new areas back into play well on schedule.

The work behind the 1st tee is nearing completion with just a few things left to do. The old fence posts and retaining block needs to be cut away and the cabling in the area buried in the sand. Once this is done, the marram grass will be brought closer to the edge of the bed and over-seeding of rye and fescue grasses will be completed. The new path to the left of the tee is due to be installed in the next couple weeks once the level of the base layer is raised slightly. Once installed this will set off the great work the team have completed in this area.

I will endeavour to keep you posted with progress and updates over the coming weeks, but as always, should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
