Many players say that ‘inconsistency’ is their main problem. How do you become more consistent? Everyone has good spells in a round, good days in a year, but cannot maintain it for longer. The more comprehensive lesson below allows more time for discussion, full analysis and complete understanding of your own strengths and weaker areas.

Half day (approx. 3 hours) at £90, or £50 each for two players. This is a detailed lesson that is tailored to your main requirements and will include: swing technique, short game, putting, strategy, shot selection, best practice drills for you to maximise your own time, and understanding your own game.

As you will be aware, major changes to the rules will come in to play from 1st January. Over the next few weeks, we will summarise some of the main rules changes here in the newsletter.

The unofficial winter comps in January and February will allow us a ‘trial period’, but by the time of the official club competitions from mid March, you will need to be quite clear on the new rules, otherwise you will be caught out by players or opponents who know these rules better than yourself.

There are excellent explanations and video clips on the R&A and England Golf websites. We have the new rule books available from the Shop.

As mentioned, we will summarise here but it is impossible to condense all things into a few lines so it is your responsibility to gather more information. Main points for now:

- All areas of the course will fall into one of the following categories. Terminology has now changed and the course will include: Teeing Area (of the hole being played); Putting green (of the hole being played); Bunkers; Penalty Areas; General Area (previously known as Through the Green).
- A player will have 3 minutes to look for their ball (not 5 minutes).
- Dropping procedure – mark your reference point and then drop from knee height. You can stand upright or kneel on other leg but the ball must be dropped from normal knee height when you would be standing normally.
- Unless there is a local rule in place, you are now able to: use distance measuring devices; remove stones, leaves and loose impediments from bunkers; embedded ball in the general area can be lifted and dropped.
- Unplayable ball in a bunker – if you deem a ball unplayable then you have the usual options but additionally can now drop outside the bunker, keeping the ball and flag in line with where you drop, for a TWO shot penalty.
- READY GOLF – although this is not a rule, there is an active push towards all players being quicker and playing when ready, rather than furthest away from the hole playing first. If safe to do so, then play your shot. You will also be able to leave the flag in the hole when putting and there is no penalty if your ball hits the flagstick.

The course - The full list of information is on the Noticeboards.

GUR areas are marked with main areas left of 3rd, left of 11th, left of 14th greens.

Buggies – please keep to paths and fairways, not in the rough or heather.

Work on 1st and 18th holes has started and these holes are likely to be closed for most of the winter. Updates when necessary, or check with the Pro Shop.

Practice area – for the next couple of weeks the range will be restricted to maximum 140 yards. Strictly no shots beyond this for safety reasons whilst work is ongoing. The chipping green and driving nets remain open.

Sunday mornings, a member may only sign in one guest, maximum, before 12.30pm.

As we approach the shorter winter days, we have less tee times which allow players to complete their round. Please do not book tee times unless you are sure you will use the time. Please cancel tee times as soon as you know you won’t need them. Please join up with other members if you are a single player or two players.
