Fairway Protection – In Play from Saturday November 24th

As we approach winter and the growth on the course slows, we need to begin considering how we will protect our course over the coming months. We have already reduced visitor numbers since the beginning of November and have no plans to add any groups at this stage. We have also moved on to some of our winter tees to allow for resting and re-generation of our more heavily used tees. The final stage of this process will be to implement fairway protection measures from this Saturday, November 24th.

Beginning on Saturday, areas that require protection will be marked off with a white line. Just like last year there will be a white line at the start of the protected area and again at the end. The difference to last year is that we will not be offering any other options for relief as this only moves the wear patches; instead, the local rule will be that all golf within the protected areas must be played from mats. These mats will be spread within the protected area this year, and we ask that you find one, use it, and then leave it in the area. There is no need for you to collect a mat from the Professional Shop, the green keeping team will make sure the mats are checked frequently and remain in the required areas.

Last year we learned of several people who pulled their balls back to the start of the protected area, and others who moved to the side of the fairways. As noted above, this only moves the wear to other areas, it doesn’t prevent wear which is the intended goal. Please don’t move your ball from the protected areas, just simply use a mat which will help the course to recover before the season next year.

Thank you all for your cooperation with this much needed rest period.
